The answer is of course towering over us! at 32 metres high and 400 metres long the ribblehead viaduct is a feat of victorian engineering. It forms part of the settle-carlisle line, built by the midland railway company between 1870 and 1874 in a bid to gain a share of the lucrative anglo-scottish market.
Ribblehead station is situated on the settle to carlisle line, arguably the most scenic train route in the whole of england. This walk takes in the outstanding ribblehead viaduct beneath the watchful gaze of two of the yorkshire three peaks.
The settle to carlisle way is a recently developed route that runs from station to station, mostly within sight of the famous railway.
